UNDER THE NIMI PROJECT – THE NEW INTELLIGENCE OF MADE IN ITALY

DELIDA – Design Library and Digital Archive, the new Abadir library and multimedia space in the historic centre of Catania (map) hosted an’interactive installation curated by the Milan-based studio Detroit and a selection of projects from motion design. 

The exhibition was opened by a talk with Salvo Giunta.

The event was organised with the support of Enrico Gisana within the framework of NIMI – the New Intelligence of Made in Italy.

The Installation

Presented at Milan Design Week 2025, D.D.A. (Data-Driven Art) generate custom patterns based on visitors' brainwavesa sensor detects and measures the subject's brainwaves – stimulated by audio and video sensory inputs – and transmits them to the computer, where the algorithm processes them and transforms them into code. In real time, a piece of software translates the code into a recognisable and homogeneous visual language, giving rise to graphically unique generative artworks, because they are based on subjective and unrepeatable inputs. The image, processed in about a minute, is then printed as a poster and given as a souvenir to each participant.

The Talk

Salvo Giunta, originally from Modica (Ragusa) and now based in Milan, is a graphic designer, co-founder and creative director of Ditroit. In the talk he retraces the origins of the studio, the passions that influence his design practice, the most interesting projects – ranging from commercial collaborations with brands to personal and artistic research work – and presents the D.D.A. installation.

The Exhibition

DELIDA's spaces also host a selection of projects created by the male and female students of our Academy as part of the courses in Motion Design with Enrico Gisana, Interactive Interiors with Gianluca Monaco, Methods and Tools for Representation with Melani De Luca and Claudia Colombo.

Detroit

Ditroit is a motion design studio founded in Milan in 2009 by Salvo Giunta. It specialises in designing visual content that tells the stories of brands, products or ideas. In its over 15 years of activity, it has collaborated with, among others: Microsoft, Gucci, Kit-Kat, Shiseido, Prada, Samsung, MTV, Swatch. In 2023 it launched Dream. A free space for the wandering brains, a space born from the desire to create a tangible environment for the exhibition and enjoyment of art, a free gallery where designers, tech experts, artists and dreamers can share their analogue or digital content with the city through a window overlooking Viale Abruzzi. Occasionally, the exhibition space also hosts interactive exhibitions and live events.
