Waterschool South

Waterschool South is the Sicilian spin-off of the Waterschool founded by Makkink & Bey. It is an educational project created in partnership with the Dutch studio and co-curated by Andrés Fredes, focusing on the strategic importance of water as a finite resource, to generate awareness and trigger processes that stimulate cultural, academic and scientific progress for the improvement of the quality of life in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean basin.

Waterschool South is made up of various activities – ranging from speculative design, visual arts, historical and cultural research, product design and innovative solutions – and involves local and international actors to imagine possible responses to Sicily's multifaceted challenges, which include issues such as desertification, growing tourism and its conscious management, wildfire prevention and the sustainable use of water resources.
