Waterschool South
Waterschool South is the Sicilian spin-off of the Waterschool founded by Makkink & Bey. It is an educational project developed in partnership with the Dutch studio and co-curated by Andrés Fredes, focusing on the strategic importance of water as a finite resource. Its goal is to raise awareness and spark processes that stimulate cultural, academic, and scientific progress to improve the quality of life in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean basin.
Waterschool South comprises various activities—ranging from speculative design, visual arts, historical and cultural research, and innovative product and solution design—and engages local and international stakeholders to explore possible responses to Sicily's multifaceted challenges, including desertification, growing tourism and its responsible management, forest fire prevention, and the sustainable use of water resources.
