At Abadir, we develop projects that connect creativity and local communities, addressing sensitive issues such as environmental sustainability, migration, social inclusion, and technological innovation, using practices and languages ranging from graphic design to product and service design. NIMI Project
The New Intelligence of Made in Italy project revolves around three cornerstones: craftsmanship, artificial intelligence, and social and ethical innovation linked to the world of arts and applied arts.
NIMI's primary goal is to bring Made in Italy back to the international stage by giving designers from around the world the opportunity to harness the skills that have made it an asset to our manufacturing system.
Mediterranean Domestic
Domestico, Mediterraneo is the culmination of Mediterraneo Operandi, a nine-month design project conducted as part of the annual Design III workshop led by Giuseppe Arezzi in the 2023–2024 academic year.
What does it mean to design for and in the Mediterranean in the era of globalization? Starting from this question, the course students developed a series of new objects, in collaboration with a number of companies from Southern and Central Italy.
Sicilcima
Within its courses, Abadir offers the opportunity to engage with local communities and put into practice the design skills acquired during the course. Among its recurring collaborations is one with Sicilcima, a company specializing in windows and doors. Since 2020, during the Christmas holidays, students in the Exhibition Design course led by Makoto Fukuda have created temporary installations in Sicilcima showrooms throughout Sicily.
GAP – Graffiti Art in Prison
GAP – Graffiti Art in Prison It is a three-year project that unites interdisciplinary research, valorization of artistic heritage e social commitmentand starting from the study of the graffiti language, in particular those of the Prisons of the Holy Office of the Spanish Inquisition kept inside Chiaramonte Steri Palace in Palermo.
Conceived and promoted by SiMuA – University Museum System of the University of Palermo, in partnership with ABADIR, with the Department of History of Art of theUniversity of Zaragoza, with the Department of Political Science and International Relations of theUniversity of Palermo and with Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck Institut, is funded by the Erasmus+ programme under the Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education 2020-2023 and sponsored by Ministry of Culture and from Ministry of Justice – DAP (Department of Penitentiary Administration).
GAP is created in collaboration with the Association A New Day engaged in the Pagliarelli Prison in Palermo, with Friends of Ambra Agnello Onlus, the association Acrobatics, Coopculture andAcademy of Fine Arts of Palermo.

MIGRA-N-TI. Practical and Symbolic Experiments in Design
In 2017, the entire school, led by Domitilla Dardi, explored the phenomenon of migration. After extensive data collection on design's achievements on the topic, a series of symbolic works were developed as protest actions, along with practical objects that promote syncretism and cross-cultural integration.
Very Happy Sicily
Sicilia Felicissima is the visual communications competition that recognizes outstanding collaborations between designers from around the world and Sicilian organizations and companies. The third edition of the award involved communication designers, companies, public and private institutions, associations, and students whose projects contributed to enhancing the tangible and intangible resources of our region.
