Erasmus+ Student Mobility in Warsaw

A semester at the School of Form in Warsaw: the Erasmus experience of Alice Incognito and Alice Pellegrino

Those who study at Abadir have the opportunity to undertake periods of mobility abroad for study (Mobility for Study) or traineeships (Mobility for Traineeship) funded by the Erasmus+ Programme: Alice Pellegrino and Alice Incognito, students of the three-year course in Product and Interior Design, they spent a semester at the School of Form in Warsaw (Poland), a school with an interdisciplinary approach that is strongly focused on the environmental context in which the projects will be integrated and the communities with which they will have to interact.

The School of Form offers state-of-the-art workshops ranging from traditional crafts like ceramics, to digital disciplines such as photography and videomaking, up to the most innovative technologies like robotics. During their student study mobility, Alice and Alice had the opportunity to engage with local businesses and apply the “learning by doing” approach already experienced at Abadir, through workshops, prototyping and other theoretical-practical activities.

During Furniture Design, the collaboration with a small Warsaw café led the working groups to tackle concrete problems and real user experience, in order to design a series of plywood seating. The Ceramic Workshop instead, it pushed them outside the box, asking them to imagine a collection of objects designed for an alien world.

«During Photographic Documentation We learned the basics of photography and initially practised in the university lab. We learned how to set up a photographic shoot, from choosing the background to managing the lights. After this initial training phase, we took our skills outside the campus walls, taking photos in the city to create a reportage.»

– Alice Incognito

However, international mobility is not merely a training experience that enriches one's CV and skill set: it is also (and above all) an immersion in the culture of the host country, an experience that leaves its mark and is reflected just as much in personal and human growth as in one's strategic vision.
