Utsuroi うつろい

Utsuroi うつろい

Utsuroi (うつろい) it is a Japanese term related to change, to transformation.
Indicates a gradual and inevitable change, the passage from one state to another; can also refer to the reflection or projection of one element onto another. Both meanings refer to an idea of impermanence, reminding us that nothing is truly stable and everything is ephemeral.

Utsuroi It is used to describe landscapes and the changing of the seasons, or those threshold moments when an event is about to end, such as the falling of leaves in autumn or the fading of light at the end of the day. But it is also a principle deeply rooted in Japanese architecture and culture, a space-time concept that blurs the boundary between the self and the surrounding environment.

In December 2025, the new Sicilcima showroom in Catania in via Scuto Costarelli 47 will host the annual installation designed by Makoto Fukuda with the students of the course Exhibition design.

Japanese spaces are often designed to allow one to observe, perceive and enjoy the forms through which change manifests itself: Utsuroi celebrates this approach by bringing into the showroom a series of organic elements suspended from the ceiling, light and mobile, whose movement evokes the ineluctable delicacy of the transformations that mark the natural cycles.

With this project, Abadir consolidates the research path begun with Sicilcima in 2020, interpreting the showroom not only as an exhibition space but as a narrative environment. Utsuroi It thus becomes a poetic device capable of expressing the brand's identity, building an experience that combines design culture, interdisciplinarity, territorial contaminations and critical thinking.

The installation will remain open to visitors throughout the Christmas holidays and until January 16, 2026.
