HYDROTHÈQUE. WATERSCHOOL SOUTH 2025 CLOSING EVENT

HYDROTHEQUE. DAILY MENU: TOMATOES

10 JULY 2025, 6.30 pm–20.00
LARGO DELLA GRAZIELLA, SYRACUSE

Largo dei Pescatori in the Graziella district of Ortigia (Syracuse), a public space symbolically linked to the aquatic dimension and collective labour, is home to an’closing event of the Summer Programme 2025 at Waterschool Southan open performance that presents the work carried out by the participants – a group of students from the University of Minnesota – over the seven weeks of collective research and practice, among objects, images, gestures and narratives.

The public is invited to take part in a water tasting, a performative tasting involving taste, touch, hearing and sharing to prompt material and symbolic reflection on the’water as a living entity, a structural element of our metabolism and ecosystems, a vector of relationships between human, non-human and more-than-human entities. Participatory practice stimulates collective gestures that subvert the everyday invisibility of water, bringing its profound cultural, social and environmental value to the surface.

Eight runners made using the cyanotype technique welcome a collection of water vessels of various kinds, origins, histories and materials, and tomatoes, which are also considered as “water vessels”.

HYDROTHEQUE. DAILY MENU – TOMATOES, edited by Francesca Gattello e Alba Balmaseda Domínguez, it is a liquid library, a situated and temporary archive, an invitation to rediscover water through collective rituals that restore value to the gestures of gathering, containing, pouring, savouring, and to reconnection with the hydrosphere. A shared moment that celebrates the interdependence between complex systems and promotes greater awareness and new practices of care.

Free admission.

The event is made possible thanks to the support of Moncada OP, Notpla e Aquamaris which supplied, respectively: the tomatoes, the sustainable packaging and the food-grade sea water.

The Summer Programme – WSS25 it is made by Abadir and Syracuse Academy within the framework of Waterschool South, an interdisciplinary research project on the theme of water conceived, produced and promoted by Abadir.
