Can taste be designed?
Can you give shape to odours and flavours through visual communication?
In the workshop Can you design taste? Food, form and the table edited by Studio de Ronners (Rotterdam), we will explore Sicilian culture through the lens of food, understood not only as sustenance, but as an expression of the region's historical and socio-cultural heritage.
The Spring School is open to the public. Graphic design skills are required to attend.
Starting from the meeting with local chefs and producers, we will reflect on our current relationship with food and the role that graphic design plays in the contemporary scenario, with a focus on the zero-waste philosophy, seasonality, short-chain produce and the deep connection with the place of which a given cuisine is an expression.
The results of this investigation will be translated into a visual project, in which the concept of “taste” will first be represented through a poster, and then extended to the spatial and collective dimension.
The workshop will culminate in the design of the layout for a table and an exhibition, where the central element will be a tablecloth conceived as an integral part of a larger installation.
Why eating is never just a matter of nourishment: it means assimilating habits, memories and social codes.
The Spring School is organised as part of the Master CVAD – First Level Master's Degree in Visual Communication and Art Direction directed by Mauro Bubbico.
